America’s Farmers Grow Communities is sponsored by the Monsanto Fund to support local farming communities. The program allows farmers to register to win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit organization, such as FFA, 4-H, schools, fire departments and other civic groups. One winner was selected in each of 1,204
Lawrence County Winner was Curtis McBride and Family Curtis being presented the check by Monsanto Representative Chris Holt, Curtis on the right and Chris on left.

On March 8, 2011 the Indiana South Central Regional Envirothon was held at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds.  Twenty-eight teams participated in this educational event.  Lawrence County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsored 4 teams from Lawrence County with two teams from Bedford-North Lawrence High School and two teams from Mitchell High School.  Placing second place out of 28 teams was a team from Mitchell High School.  The winning team consisted of Clayton Pfaff (grade 11) Ben Embry (grade 11) Evie Sehr (grade 12) Kevin Lee (grade 12) Peyton Phelps (grade 12) Robyn Embry (Environmental Science teacher/Science Club Sponsor)
